If you Bib-a-Don’t, then this post is for you!
Baby Led weaning can get messy! Trust me! If you are just starting out on your own weaning journey then you need to know about the best bib in town.
When Baby Joe was about four months old I started to read up on weaning. I had seen some information online about ‘Baby Led Weaning’ (BLW) and was curious as it seemed to fit well with the ‘intuitive eating’ approach i was trying to adopt for myself. I read a couple of books and found some online groups to join. The basic principle of BLW, for those who aren’t in the know, is that babies can eat what we eat. No need for purees or special baby cereals. The biggest issue that seems to put people off? The mess! If you are letting your six month old explore foods in varied textures and consistency there is going to be a lot of mess. Avo toast splattered walls anyone?

Enter the Bib-a-do! Now it’s not a miracle worker, the walls may still get a bit of a shock, but it does save you at least thirty minutes picking up all the peas that would have been on the floor, changing the outfits that would have been covered in lentil soup or mopping up the water that is bound to be poured into their lap! The Bib-a-Do is a fantastic coverall bib that comes in a one size fits all style – that’s babies and highchairs! The bib pops on like a nursery painting apron fastening at the neck with velcro and adjusting at the arms with poppers. The pouch is then formed by stretching the bib in front of baby and securing it underneath with the velcro that is placed at strategic points to provide adjustable sizing. They fit perfectly with our IKEA Antilop and we’ve used them out and about too!

I bought our first Bib-a-Do before Baby Joe was six months, so that when we hit that magic weaning-ready stage we would be all set to get started. The first couple of designs we bought were the blue stripe with watermelons and the yellow stripe with watermelons. As Christmas approached I knew I had to have the gorgeous Penguins design and we loved popping Baby Joe in it for lunch after meeting Santa. I even started referring to it as our ‘Winter’ Bib-a-Do so I could keep using it after the festive period was over…i may still be putting Baby Joe in it now…Anyway, enough about my seasonal mis-dressing!

As Baby Joe progressed onto three meals a day I soon realised we needed more bibs! The only other design available was very pink and although I try to be open minded I couldn’t quite bring myself to put my hair-less baby boy in it. So you can imagine my glee when the Bib-a-Do team brought out ‘Dinosaurs & Trucks!’ We love a good dinosaur story in this house so we were sold. A couple of bibs later and our collection was sufficient. At thirteen months old, Baby Joe still likes to make a bit of a mess. The Bib-a-Do makes my life so much easier and I was very proud of myself when I watched the demo video showing the most efficient way to clean up after a Bib-a-Do meal. I had already come to that method myself. I was a Bib-a-Do natural. Please don’t laugh. I don’t get out much these days.

The bibs have worn well and if you give them the odd wash on a 60 degree cycle any stains come right off. Now a real review isn’t fair without the pro’s and the cons. The only tiny issue I can come up with is that the velcro is wearing and often catches when in the wash. I need to ask Bib-a-Do if they have considered using the poppers all over rather than velcro. But my suggestion to you is just to pop your bibs in a mesh laundry bags. I grabbed this bargain pack on Amazon for just £6.99!
